Exploring Cleaner Fuels

Field Tests

Field Tests

In the ideal future, every vehicle runs on 100% clean, renewable energy. To get there, three critical steps must first be taken:

By working together, AC Transit and Chevron are field-testing alternatives today so that everyone can benefit from cleaner fuels tomorrow.

Biodiesel and GTL Diesel

AC Transit is conducting extensive field tests of two new alternative fuels:

The Cleaner Fuels Test Program is examining these two diesel alternatives in terms of emissions, fuel efficiency, and engine wear. Learn more about this study.

Hydrogen Fuel Cells

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are quiet, zero-emission, electrically propelled vehicles that only emit water vapor from the tailpipe. Since the beginning of 2006, Chevron has been providing hydrogen for AC Transit‘s HyRoad program, one of the most comprehensive hydrogen fuel cell demonstration programs in the world. Worldwide Research

The AC Transit / Chevron Field Tests are not being done in isolation. Around the world, corporations, government agencies and academic institutions are working together to research and develop cleaner fuels. Learn more about worldwide research efforts.
