Biodiesel / GTL Diesel Field Tests

AC Transit is currently testing two cleaner Chevron fuels: blended Biodiesel (B20) made from vegetable oils, and 100% GTL (Gas-to-Liquids) diesel made from natural gas. By putting these fuels through their paces in the real world, AC Transit and Chevron are advancing the understanding of fuels that might soon add to everyone‘s energy mix.

What is Being Tested

The goal is to see how well these two fuels perform compared to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) that meets California Air Resources Board standards. When studying how well B20 Biodiesel (a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% ULSD) and GTL diesel perform, researchers are looking at:

How the Test is Being Conducted

A statistically valid test has been designed by Chevron and AC Transit, in partnership with GTL fuel supplier SasolChevron and engine manufacturer Cummins. For details on the test design, click here.
