The evolution of fuels doesn't happen all by itself. It takes years of research and development to bring better ideas to everyday use.
Through AC Transit and Chevron‘s efforts in testing cleaner alternative fuels, and everyone‘s efforts in understanding and using the most viable alternative fuel options, we can work together to create a cleaner, more sustainable energy and transportation system.
Learn more about the fuels AC Transit and Chevron are working together to test:
- Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) -- The standard California diesel fuel today is very different than the diesel of just 10 years ago.
- Biodiesel -- You can‘t just use vegetable oil as-is, but biodiesel that‘s derived from plant materials holds the promise of filling part of the energy demand with a renewable liquid fuel.
- GTL -- Gas-To-Liquids diesel is an alternative diesel made from natural gas, and it can be used in many existing, unmodified diesel engines.
- Hydrogen -- Hydrogen has been touted as the fuel of the future. It‘s odorless, colorless, non-toxic and can be produced in many different ways.
